Power Skating

Power Skating is strong, fast, controlled skating. Hockey power skating teaches the player proper skating technique, including endurance, agility, rhythm, balance, and strength. As the hockey player begins to incorporate these skills into his or her game, performance is enhanced and injuries are minimized. The earlier these skills become a habitual part of the player’s practice and game, the more likely the player is to succeed in the sport of hockey. Holly Harrington has successfully taught thousands of students the skills they need for peak performance.

Shaffer’s Dangles

Providing a positive, encouraging setting for teaching fundamentals to our youth hockey future.

Dillon Shaffer is a prime example of due diligence to the game. Born in Phoenix in 1987, his parents enrolled him in learn to skate classes at the age of 7. Dillon took immediately to hockey, and when he was 10 years old his parents enrolled him in squirt house. He quickly rose on the youth hockey ladder, playing Pee Wee A at VOSHA, followed by bantams and U16AA hockey for Kurt Goar’s DYHA.

When he was just 15 years old, Kurt Goar selected Shaffer on his U18 AA team as a starting defenseman but he soon transitioned to a dominant forward player. The following year Goar’s U18 AA team rose into the AAA division. Dillon’s ability to obtain skill and put it into action on the ice was insightful. With Dillon as a high ranking center, Goar’s U18 team took third in nationals. He was definitely a factor in the team’s success, leading nearly every team he played on in points. Dillon sticks to his motto of “When in doubt, dangle it out.” Dillon’s leadership skills earned him to be named captain for the NAU Lumberjacks, as well as their points leader.

His love for the game causes him to spend his summers dangling with over 50 kids in summer camp with Kurt, just because he loves to be on the ice. Dillon’s logical look at the game causes him to seek the basic fundamentals of the game for young players. He is a great asset to Goar hockey, Gilbert Polar Ice and The Arizona Hockey Union as his primary goal is to put the emphasis of the game back on skills. Both Kurt and Holly use Dillon as a key component in their programs, and advocate his ability to develop players successfully
